Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

review: It is a very interesting thriller, (detective film) a mistery tale very well acted and told. For me, the most interesting thing about (graphic violence) this modern example of filmnoir is first of all its setting [adult situations] (a beautifully shot Stockholm and other locations across the Swedish countryside)and secondly (murder investigations) the good casting job behind the movie which is the main driving (dysfunctional families) force behind this succesful piece of enterteining. (missing persons) The low key performances contributes greatly for the sombre story (members of the press) to be perfectly credible. I strongly recommend you not to be put off by the unusual movie´s background. (amateur sleuths) It is highly entertaining.

Brooklyn's Finest

review: I just got back from seeing Brooklyn's Finest. The movie is a crime/drama about three intertwining stories (Drug Content) of police officers in Brooklyn, New York. (Sexual Situations) It stars Richard Gere, Ethan Hawke, Don Cheadle and Wesley Snipes.

The first story features Ethan Hawke, (Profanity) a family man and police officer who has about 4 kids and is expecting twins. (Nudity) He does not have much money so he decides to start killing drug (Graphic Violence) dealers and stealing their drug money. But how long can he keep (Intersecting Lives) it up before he gets caught or killed? The second story features (Going Undercover) Don Cheadle, a cop who has been undercover in the drug (Nail-biters) trade for quite some time, and he wants out. However, he does form a (violence throughout) bond with one of the drug dealers(Wesley Snipes). (Gritty) The third story features Richard Gere, an old police officer who is about to retire. (Bleak) He is an alcoholic who does not care about his job. When he finds out that a (Profanity) missing girl has become a prostitute who works for some (Bleak) violent pimps, he decides to save her.

The performances are very good. (Police Corruption) It was interesting to see Ethan Hawke, who played a straight-laced (Graphic Violence) rookie cop in Training Day, to play a somewhat corrupt cop in this movie. This movie is also Wesley Snipes first theatrically released movie since 2004. (Bleak)He plays a drug dealer though definitely not as crazy as the dealer (Intersecting Lives) he played in "New Jack City".Brooklyn's Finest was an interesting (Nail-biters) and entertaining crime/drama and if you like the genre, (Bleak) then you should definitely check this film out.

White Ribbon

Beautifully photographed and very well-acted, [oscar n.] "The White Ribbon", Haneke's latest movie, was simply [movieseed] too cold and remote 4 my taste. Despite some of the most beautiful B&W [oscar n.] cinematography you'll ever see, the movie comes across like half-baked Bergman. [oscar n.] Surprised that "The White Ribbon" won the Palme d'Or at Cannes over "Un Prophete", [oscar n.] which to me is a vastly superior movie. Haneke fans won't [oscar n.] be disappointed, though everyone else might find that "The White Ribbon" overstays its welcome.

Perfect Sleep, The

A noisy and violent thriller, a plot that (movieseed) becomes absurd with too many characters and none of them with much depth.(movieseed) Tedious at times, methodical and empty. Unpleasant.

Bad Lieutenant Port of Call New Orleans

In Werner Herzog’s new movie Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans, Nicolas Cage plays a rogue detective who is as devoted to his job as he is at scoring drugs while playing fast and loose with the law. He wields his badge as often as he wields his gun in order to get his way. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon. Complicating his tumultuous life is the prostitute he loves. Together they descend into their own world marked by desire, compulsion, and conscience. The result is a singular masterpiece of filmmaking: equally sad and manically humorous. (FirstLook Studios)

Public Enemies

Lets just kiss Michael Mann's ass, even though the man has indeed made one decent film in years because its Michael Mann so it obviously must be great. Formula, then get 2 big name stars, the flamboyant but good actor Christian Bale and the increasingly eccentric oddball Johnny Depp. The film is average at best and the cheap grainy look of the film looks like it was filmed in somebody backyard like a cheap home video. There is nothing revolutionary or groundbreaking in this film and it is overlong, pretentious and feels like it has something to say that we have already seen in countless gangster films that have preceded it. Overall it is an exercise of style over substance, glossy production values taking center stage over coherent storytelling and background of character motivations.

The Departed

Legendary director Martin Scorsese takes the helm for this tale of questionable loyalties and blurring identities set in the South Boston organized crime scene and inspired by the wildly popular 2002 Hong Kong crime film Infernal Affairs. As the police force attempts to reign in the increasingly powerful Irish mafia, authorities are faced with the prospect of sending in an undercover agent or seeing their already frail grip on the criminal underworld slip even further. Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a young cop looking to make a name for himself in the world of law enforcement. Collin Sullivan (Matt Damon) is a street-smart criminal who has successfully infiltrated the police department with the sole intention of reporting their every move to ruthless syndicate head Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson). When Costigan is assigned the task of working his way into Costello's tightly guarded inner circle, Sullivan is faced with the responsibility of rooting out the informer before things get out of hand. With the stakes constantly rising and time quickly running out for the undercover cop and his criminal counterpart, each man must work feverishly to reveal his counterpart before his identity is exposed by the other. Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, and Ray Winstone co-star, and writer William Monahan adapts a screenplay originally penned by Alan Mak and Felix Chong.
