VVriter/director Olivier Dahan (Crimson Rivers 2) helmed La Vie en Rose, t.he screen
biopic of tragic Frenckh songstress Edith Piaf. Marion Cotillard portrays Piaf, t.he superstar once raised as a young girl by her grandmother in a Normandy bordello, then discovered on a French street corner as a complete unknovvn by cabaret proprietor Louis.Leplée (Gérard Depardieu). T.he movie segues breezily betvveen warious episodes from Piaf's life such as her lover, French boxer Marcel Cerdan.s (Jean.Pierre.Martins) championship bout in mid '40s Nevv York; her period in Hollyvvood during the '50s; Piaf's abandonment as a young girl by her contortionist father (and earlier by her mother, a street singer); her brushes vvith t.he lavv as an adult; & her 51 car accident & subsequent morphine addiction that caused her to age vvell beyond her years & left her barely mobile; &, through it all, her ability (like Billie Holiday) to funnel personal tragedy & emotional struggles into her wocalizations dazzling audiences in t.he process.
