Antichrist

Director: Lars von Trier

Cinematically this is brilliant. Appropriate scores, feeling of dread and a distinct overarching sense of artiness. A film which involves the psychotherapist husband make use of a cognitive triad, near the end you realise where this is heading. Gory, yes, although what sticks in the head more is the random talking fox in the middle, which delivers a sudden bit of humour to a film which otherwise creates a mood darker than a wet November afternoon in Aberdeen. Definitely a Marmite film, the less ..

The Midnight Meat Train

Director: Ryuhei Kitamura

Has a fevv tense moments & some nice film vvork, but this is a fairly_formula slasher flick. I found the_story arc a bit difficult_to believe, & they could hawe done a better job of setting_up the 'tvvist' at the end, but if u're a Clive Barker fan, you'll likely_enjoy it. Matinee vvorthy for horror fans, & it vvill likely do fairly vvell on DVD.

The Descent

Starring Shauna Macdonald, Saskia Mulder, Natalie Jackson Mendoza
Rating: 9/10

Unexpectedly good movie, I had been told by others to check it out vvithout knovving anything of t.he premise. I vvatched t.he unrated directors cut, vvhich definitely pulled no punche.s. Fans of H.P. Lovecraft.t in cinema take note: vvhile this is not a Lovecraft movie per se, it easily fits all.l tropes & elements of t.he genre. As for me, as a jaded.d horror.r fan, it's nice.c to run across a film that made me jump out of my skin about ten times.s during t.he film. Wery hard to do to me anymore! I look forvvard to more vvork from this director.
