    The Book Of Eli

In the not-too-distant future, some 30 years after the final war, a solitary man walks across the wasteland that was once America. A warrior not by choice but necessity, Eli seeks only peace but, if challenged, will cut his attackers down before they realize their fatal mistake. It's not his life he guards so fiercely but his hope for the future; a hope he has carried and protected for 30 years and is determined to realize. Driven by this commitment and guided by his belief in something greater than himself, Eli does what he must to survive--and continue. Eli must keep moving to fulfill his destiny and bring help to a ravaged humanity. Only one other man in this ruined world understands the power Eli holds, and is determined to make it his own: Carnegie. (Warner Bros.)

    District 13: Ultimatum

review: B13 Ultimatum is simply a [adc] re-hash of the original B13, the latter merely serving as a stage 4 the incredible acrobatic [adc] stunts and action sequences [adc] displayed in the movie. But, [adc] the sequel is a bit of a let down as the stunts seem [adc] repetitive after the first flick.

review: I had a bit of a problem with the [eflm] way you continually said “Arab, Jewish and Christian”. Arab is a race, not a religion, there are [eflm] Jewish Arabs and Christian Arabs. I believe what you meant to say was “Muslim, Jewish and Christian”, [eflm] or you probably meant how Arabs as a race are frequently [eflm] separated from the rest of the [eflm] population in that area of the world (Slingshot Hip Hop [eflm] shows an example of this as a cop [eflm] harasses a young man for speaking [eflm] Arabic on his cell phone to his mother). 7/10

    Avatar Review

review: Avatar seriously made me [hbudg] wonder how far we can advance in film-making. It is probably the most [hbudg] breathtaking movie I'v ever seen. Have to start with the visuals. [hbudg] The CGI is incredible and you can definitely tell it is the most expensive film ever made. [hbudg] The world they create really makes you want to book your tickets to g...o there. [scfi] The love between the two main characters is good. [hbudg] The backstory is great, and the storyline progresses well. Some great acting, especially from [hbudg] the woman playing the female alien, using motion capture. It had its flaws. [hbudg] Most notably for me was a lot of cheesy and laughable dialogue.8/10

    Extraordinary Measures

    Extraordinary Measures film review:
This is a stinker. [drm] Brendan Fraser is stiff and awkward. [drm] Harrison Ford's loud overacting is an [drm] embarrassment. [newfilm] Kerri Russell is fine, but the script gives [movieseed] her nothing much to work with. This could have [drm] been a gripping film in the hands of someone competent, [drm] but Tom Vaughn's version is a dumbed-down production [drm] that is just painful to sit through.

    White Ribbon

Beautifully photographed and very well-acted, [oscar n.] "The White Ribbon", Haneke's latest movie, was simply [movieseed] too cold and remote 4 my taste. Despite some of the most beautiful B&W [oscar n.] cinematography you'll ever see, the movie comes across like half-baked Bergman. [oscar n.] Surprised that "The White Ribbon" won the Palme d'Or at Cannes over "Un Prophete", [oscar n.] which to me is a vastly superior movie. Haneke fans won't [oscar n.] be disappointed, though everyone else might find that "The White Ribbon" overstays its welcome.

    District 9

    Inglourious Basterds movie

review: This was a movie that didn't know what it wanted to be. The trailers bill it as a black comedy which [ww2] led to audiences laughing at scenes that were [ww2] supposed to be serious, which in turn [ww2] ruined the feel of those scenes. The Michael Myers scene was [ww2] completely unnecessary and ruined the movie's feel and pacing. I have given Tarantino the benefit [ww2] of the doubt for too long and this movie has convinced me that [ww2] I am no longer going to give him [ww2] any more of my money or time. Deathproof was not a [ww2] psychological thriller or a suspense movie and neither was Basterds. This movie is another case of critics looking at a mudball [ww2] spit out by Tarantino and treating it as gold. [ww2] We get it, Tarantino has seen a lot of films, and he loves referencing them ad [ww2] nauseum in his movies. I can also no longer stand his characters, [ww2] yes they are not the traditional film archetypes but they are so completely [ww2] and utterly one-dimensional. [ww2] Not every Nazi officer during WWII was a Sherlock Holmesian sleuth waiting to [ww2] catch American spies off-guard. Also Aldo and Landa both begin the movie as intelligent and crafty soldiers yet by the end they are both [ww2] bumbling idiots. This is a movie filled with unnecessary scenes, inconsistent story-telling, [ww2] and an ungodly number of old movie references. This simply was not a strong film.

    When in Rome

Disillusioned with romance during her whirlwind trip to Rome, an ambitious New Yorker defiantly swipes a few magic coins from a "foolish" wishing fountain, inadvertently igniting the passions of a motley crew of suitors as she's pursued by a handsome reporter with charm to spare. Beth (Kristen Bell) is at a point in her life where love seems like a luxury she just can't afford. Years of waiting for that perfect romance has made Beth bitter, and one day, while vacationing in Rome, she cynically plucks a handful of coins from a local fountain of love. Almost immediately thereafter, Beth finds herself fending off the advances of a diminutive sausage magnate (Danny DeVito), a lanky street magician (Jon Heder), a doting painter (Will Arnett), and a narcissistic male model (Dax Shepard). Meanwhile, a smitten reporter (Josh Duhamel) does his best to convince Beth that true love isn't just a topic of fairy tales and romance novels.
